How to install Android Kitkat 4.4.4. via Cyanogenmod 11 on Motorola Defy+

Hello guys and welcome to a new tutorial on the most famous (nooooot ^-^) Kaigara Online website.

After completing this tutorial, you will have a rooted Motorola Defy Plus device with the latest Android Kitkat version via Cyanogenmod 11 (CM11).

I have a Motorola Defy Plus device and if yours is Motorola Defy, please read all the links carefully before doing any operation.

The tutorial will go to all steps from stock ROM, to rooting, to installing Custom Recovery, to flashing Cyanogenmod. If you find yourself in an intermediate state, please follow the tutorial from that point forward.

Here is what i did:

  1. Follow PART 1 of this guide. (Now you have a rooted Motorola Defy Plus)
  2. Follow PART 2 of the same guide, BUT, on step 3 use the latest ROM from here and corresponding Gapps. (Now you have Custom Recovery installed and Android JellyBean 4.3 via CM10.2)
  3. Download and put this file on the root of the sdcard. This will update the Recovery with TWRP recovery, a touch friendly recovery or a CWM recovery on steroids.
  4. Read the official thread on xda by the great Quarx and read about eventual problems related to Kitkat on Defy. (If you succesfuly install CM10.2 on your device, you will not have any problems…i didn’t. ^-^).
  5. Download the CM11 Kitkat ROM from here and put the zip on the root of the sdcard. (I used the latest one cm-11-20141017-NIGHTLY-mb52x.zip).
  6. Download the GAPPS from here and put the zip on the root of the sdcard.
  7. For CM after 01 october 2014 you will need sdcard and ~30mb free space. Quarx explained that in the Kitkat thread on point 4 but i will go in a little more detail.
  8. Download defy.zip or bravo.zip (depend on your phone) from http://quarx2k.ru/index2.php?dir=oth…map3_bootstrap (NOTE: unzip defy.7z and put the new_bootstrap.zip and resize.zip on the root of the sdcard).
  9. Now you should have on the root of the sdcard the following files:  cm-11-20141017-NIGHTLY-mb52x.zip, gapps (whatever you downloaded), new_bootstrap.zip, resize.zip.
  10. Boot into TWRP (at boot, when the led turns blue, press the volume down button > press Recovery > TWRP).
  11. Install new_bootstrap.zip. (DON”T do any wipe till i say so!!!)
  12. Reboot
  13. Boot again into TWRP and install resize.zip.
  14. Reboot
  15. Install cm-11-20141017-NIGHTLY-mb52x.zip
  16. Install gapps
  17. Now is the first time you should Wipe cache/dalvik
  18. Reboot into oblivion Mmuuuwwaaaahhaaaaaaaa!!!

DONATE to Framaroot, Clockwork Recovery, TWRP, Cyanogenmod, Quarx (Paypal donations on the first page).

If you choose to DONATE TO THIS WEBSITE, I will donate myself to the project above! ^-^.

Have fun!!! ^-^

  1. Well my brain decided to work and I have downloaded gapps jb 2013 08 13. But, file error, installation aborted on cm-10.2-20131020! I’m doing a recovery. Is this file corrupted and if so then will cm-10.2-20130917 work? Phew; recovery worked!

  2. Cm10.2 and Gapps left unzipped in the root. Downloaded cm10.2 20131020 a second time with the same result. Tried cm10.220130917 with the same result. Gapps did install. I’ll leave it for 24 hours and have another go in case it’s me doing something stupid.

    • No. But you gotta have the phone rooted and a custom recovery installed before flashing Kitkat. Try to jump directly to Kitkat and if it doesn’t work you can follow my steps because they are tested. Good luck and ask if you run into troubles.

      • Hi, followed your instructions tonight, and the phone rebooted automatically then stuck at the red ‘Motorola’ sign forever. I thought it means the phone is bricked and try to follow the instructions here to unbrick: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828639
Problems is: I am not able to download the 2.2 CEE Froyo rom mentioned in the link (it always goes to iLivid Download Manager link). Now the phone is at the state of only being recognized by Motorola RSD Lite software (with the while light on), but if I unplug usb cable and press power (or volume) button nothing happens. I guess the first thing is to find a valid Froyo rom to flash – do you have one?

        Many thanks

      • Are you sure you waited enough? If you want to flash the stock Froyo you have to be very sure it is the right rom for your device. I will see if I have the stock rom I used for my device.

  3. Hello there, I got a problem. (also posted this in the other turtorial)

I’m trying to update my standard Andriod Defy + tot android 4.4 using this turtorial

I’m at phase 2 of this turtorial
    https://kaigaraonline.wordpress.com/2014/03/06/how-to-root-and-install-cyanogenmod-10-jelly-bean-motorola-defy-plus-mb526-with-bootloader7-ver-9-1/

Everything goes right till step 11.
It errors when i install the zipfolder (CM-10.2-20131020-NIGHTLY-Mb526)

Ive tried several others from this link (given in the other turtorial) http://quarx2k.ru/archive/cm10.2-nightly-defy+/

They all give the same error:
    Installing update…
    E:Error in /sdcard/cm-10.2-20130917-mb526.zip
    (status 0)
    Installation aborted.

I’m thinking i got the wrong ROM? I don’t have any knowledge about things as these. So, can anybody set me up with the right links? Those in the turtorial ain’t working anymore

I need the good Rom and gapps.. I’m quite lost here.

Thanks in advance and best regards,

    🙂

    • The oreder of steps in my tutorials are exactly the working steps i did to get a clean and perfectly install. If i say not to do something, don’t do it. :)). Those exact steps worked for me, but if other steps works great if you try, by all means, do it. 🙂 Good luck!
